A wonderful underwater environment
Mawan is an idyllic small island in central Komodo National Park, relatively close to Siaba Besar on the West side, with a spectacular underwater landscape full of life, offering pleasant and unexpected surprises. It is a laid back, yet stunning island. It has a very relaxed atmosphere, where the main attractions are snorkeling / diving and trekking. Mawan is covered in grasslands, where you can hike at your own pace, snorkel without going in too deep or climb without going up too high, but still be able to see the neighboring island on the horizon. There are beautiful treks in this island, suitable for everyone, since there are no steep hills, but this doesn’t mean that the views from the hills are less spectacular. Just a short trek and you are at the summit. When it comes to the beach, Mawan Island has dazzling white and soft sand, easy to walk barefoot, without worrying about stepping on corals or rocks. The water is calm and crystal clear and there are plenty of beautiful corals and marine creatures to spot. You will see hard and soft corals, small sea fans, colorful sponges and anemones.
