Komodo National Park has a very diverse and complete marine life, it is a great place to interact with mantas or swim through a tornado of fusiliers, but it's also a world class macro destination. Investigating the ocean floors for macro life can become a fascinating and exciting activity.
There are more than 50 world-class dive sites in Komodo National park, so there is no surprise that you can find any kind of species in this region. Not only that, despite all the sites that are recognized as macro sites, due to the amazing variety of this kind of life you can find in them, there are also sites where these tiny creatures may not be the main attraction, but if you deeply look around, you will find them as well. For example, there are a few sites with the majestic Manta Rays, where you can marvel at them, but at the same time if you keep your eyes peeled, you will realize that you can also observe an incredible macro life. In some manta sites you can find nudibranchs and blue ringed octopus for instance. It can be difficult to know where to look but if you have the right guide, everything is possible!
Sangeang Island: Although it is located north west of Komodo island, this island is not part of Komodo National Park. However, this does not make it less interesting, quite the opposite, the critter diving opportunities here are endless. Sangeang offers dozens of top notch critter dives all around the island, where you can find an incredible variety of different life in several distinct environments. The biggest attractions are Nudibranchs, but you can also spot ghost Pipefish, frogfish, all kinds of octopus, pygmy seahorses, bobtail squids and many others.
The nutrient rich waters that attract a large number of manta rays in the South part of the Komodo National Park are also great for creating a critter rich environment.
Horseshoe Bay is located in the far southern end of Rinca Island, is home to several remarkable critter dives. In this area you find, among other sites, the following two:
Cannibal Rock: It is one of the most famous sites in all of the Komodo National Park, located in the south of marine reserve between Rinca and Nusa Kode Island. This site is well known as a macro dive site, since when you look for the tiny things on the reef the true beauty of this site emerges. You can find macro fishes species, such as rare kinds of nudibranchs, pygmy seahorses, sea apples, ladybugs, pygmy seahorses, frogfish, clownfish. The fish life can also be good at Cannibal Rock with an array of scorpion fish, schools of red snappers and surgeonfish.
Yellow Wall: located in the southern end of Komodo National park, is one of the best sites and is named after the large number of yellow soft corals found along the wall. The wall itself is dropping to over 30m in places, but it can be dived at any depth. The walls are packed with an incredible array of marine life and color - stunning soft corals, Spanish dancer nudibranchs, colourful sea urchins, bright red sea apples as well as a huge variety of tunicates. Crevices in the walls are home to sleeping fish, spiny and slipper lobsters, cleaner shrimps and decorator crabs.
This site is great for night dives, where you will meet sleeping coral trout, cat sharks, all kinds of cardinal fishes and parrot fishes in their mucus cocoon.
Komodo National Park will never stop surprising you, with its rich marine life. For photographers, these macro sites are best done more than once, with both, wide and macro lenses.

Not at all, beginners can do discover scuba diving during the cruise (let us know to arrange it)
Open water certified divers or equivalent will have access to most of the dive sites, but to make the best of the cruise Advanced level and experience in drift dive is recommended. You can spend a few days with us in Bali before starting your cruise, by joining our Safari tour or to get your Advanced certification in one of our four dive centers, it will allow you to dive up to 30m depth, to join night dives and be more confident and comfortable while drift diving.
For an even better training we recommend you to join the drift specialty in Nusa Lembongan.

We do recommend you to bring your own gears if you already own it. If not it’s not a big deal, you can rent the full set onboard, some of our partners provide rental equipment for free, maximum you can expect another 60$ per day.
