Three Sisters

3 unusual rock formations

Dive Site Three Sisters Komodo
  • Going from a pinnacle to the other

The Three Sisters is a great dive site, in the Southern part of Komodo National Park, North of Pillarsteen dive site, near Padar Island. As the name suggests, there are three rock formations sitting on a sandy bottom at 30 meters’ depth up to 3-5 meters below the surface. The pinnacles themselves are close to each other, about 10 meters apart, and makes an interesting dive crossing from one to the other. This site can be affected by strong currents, therefore is recommended to experienced dives.

    Impressive Fauna

The Three Sisters is a very pristine site covered with incredible coral and very rich marine life. You will find large fish passing by, such as sharks, eagle rays, large schools of giant trevallies and jacks, great barracudas, and some other pelagic fishes. The pinnacles are covered with all kinds of corals and marine life. You will find stunning hard and soft corals with a huge diversity of sponges, tunicates and fan corals. With all this variety, there is no wonder why Three Sisters is the perfect spot to look for all different kinds of invertebrates, nudibranchs, pygmy seahorses, scorpionfish, stonefishes, giant frogfishes and more!  It is a really special place for macro observation and a wonderful photography spot. This is another superb site, where you can enjoy the big and the macro at the same time.

    Topography between Macro and currents

The topography of Three Sisters allows for it to be dived in different conditions. When dived on slack tide, it will be easier to navigate in between each pinnacle and with little current, is the best way to appreciate the macro life. On the other hand, the more experienced divers can try this site on a mild rising or falling tide, which increases the chances of encountering big schooling fish. Although this site is currently prone; it can be dived with no problems if you are willing to swim.

This is an ideal habitat for a perfect underwater ecosystem. Three Sister is with no doubt one of the most amazing sites in Komodo National Park, imagine 3 pinnacles to discover, more action, more fun.

You can dive Three Sister all year long, but during the high season the visibility and the water temperatures can drop compared to other central sites. The site can be a bit hard to find, since it is not marked on any charts and the rocks lay just below the surface, however, with the right people, you will be able to enjoy this adventurous site.
