    Topography and Marine Life

The diving depth of the site reaches a maximum of about 24 meters. While following the slope and ledges around the rocks, you will be amazed at the marine life you will find, large schools of pickhandle barracudas, red snappers, blue spotted stingrays, beautiful triggerfish, crocodile fish, unicorn fish, hawksbill turtle, wrasse, parrot fish, damsels, puffer, rabbitfish and a lot more. Black tip and white tip reef sharks are frequently around the five adjacent rocks of this astonishing site. The walls are covered with corals and surrounded by fusiliers, batfish and surgeonfish. As you ascend, you will see countless of giant trevallies and barracudas drifting by, while hunting coral groupers who escape to the safety of coral overhangs. You might find electric clams in a few places on the site and also sometimes Batu Lima hosts feeding mantas.

    Don't forget the Macro!

As you go through the canyons that separate these rocks, always keep an eye open for the smaller life around: multitude of nudibranchs, little flatworms, shrimps, crabs, and octopus. These critters make their home among the vast array of colorful coral, on the sides of these rocks. Apart from being a beautiful location, another highlight of Batu Lima is the size of the coral fans, divers are amazed when seeing the magnitude of the brilliant purple-colored coral fans that cover the reef walls. You don’t need to dive far to see them, since they are just a few meters from the surface. Many underwater photographers want to capture this beauty in a great shot. You can also see blooming soft corals with a dense reef population, black corals whip and bushes while you drift along the coral overhangs. And, as we know, with the healthy corals come plenty of colorful fish as well.
