Siaba Kecil

A wonderful small island in Central Komodo

Dive Site Siaba Kecil Komodo
  • A real drift dive adventure

Siaba Kecil is an island in the Central part of the Komodo National Park. This is the other Siaba island, across the channel from Siaba Besar, on the West side. And as its name suggests, Siaba Kecil is the smaller Siaba island: kecil means small in local language.

As its sister island, the highlight of Siaba Kecil is diving, but unlike the dives in Siaba Besar, here current can be strong and the drift a real adventure for moderately expert divers. Depending on the current, the dive can start from the east or west cape of the little island. This drift dive runs through alluring canyons ending with a gorgeous coral garden. Within the canyons are spectacular and mysterious caves home to the big pelagic fish species. Beginners divers can also enjoy the area, just hanging around the gardens avoiding the flying drift.

    Topography and species

Siaba Kecil, is made up by a sloping reef rich in corals and sponges. The overhangs provide a fascinating topography to this tiny island. These pristine steep coral reefs have a fast moving current, making this dive site an exciting drift dive, which will give you the sense of flying, without having the need to kick. The best time to dive on this site is when the current is running. Towards the end of the dive site you drift towards a more sheltered area where the current eases off and you will come to a shallow reef plateau with a pristine hard coral garden, home to countless turtles and Mandarin Fish.

The main goal of this site, is to encounter small invertebrates and nudibranchs, many critters live here around, alongside with bigger fish such as sharks, groupers, huge schools of sweetlips and trevallies, snappers, tunas, barracudas. Sea turtles are in abundance here too. You can also admire the stunning hard corals and thousands of anthias.
