Manta Alley is one of the most iconic sites in Komodo National Park, it is the best place to dive with Manta Rays, a glorious dive for manta lovers. It is located at the far southern end of Komodo Island in the Indian Ocean.
Manta Alley consists of a series of small rocky islands a few hundred meters away from the main island. There are several spots around these rocks where mantas can be found almost all year round. The site starts in a shallow reef close to the shore, where you can expect a strong to mild drift dive. You should keep your eyes wide open just as you enter the water, as mantas can be often found right in the shallows. The access to this site is from the shore.
Manta Alley dive site is over a stunning and pristine coral reef, where you have the chance to dive with many mantas in one dive. As many as 50 mantas can be around on a good day. Manta Rays are coming to this area for mating and cleaning purposes, where small wrasse and butterfly fish clean the mantas of parasites. The cleaning station is around 20 meters, where the rocks meet a white sandy bottom, perfect spot to watch mantas gliding into the rocks. Though mantas are the main attraction of this site, Manta Alley it is also full of marine life including reef sharks, schools of trevallies and large wrasses. The corals are very beautiful and diverse as well, making this spot a spectacular background for marine life photography.
When the mantas are active, Manta Alley is a site that can be done multiple times over multiple days. Diving is possible all year round as the average water temperature ranges slightly from 22°C to 24°C (although it can drop to 20°C). These temperatures can be less than what you experience in other areas of the park, but as soon as you see these majestic creatures, you will definitely forget this. During the rainy season, from December to March divers will have more chances to swim with numerous manta rays. Although currents can be strong sometimes, it is also a perfect place to do some snorkeling.
A great news is that from 2014 Indonesia outlawed the fishing and export of manta ray to protect the species, so you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to have an encounter with these curious, intelligent underwater giants.

Not at all, beginners can do discover scuba diving during the cruise (let us know to arrange it)
Open water certified divers or equivalent will have access to most of the dive sites, but to make the best of the cruise Advanced level and experience in drift dive is recommended. You can spend a few days with us in Bali before starting your cruise, by joining our Safari tour or to get your Advanced certification in one of our four dive centers, it will allow you to dive up to 30m depth, to join night dives and be more confident and comfortable while drift diving.
For an even better training we recommend you to join the drift specialty in Nusa Lembongan.

Keep in mind that Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelago, so you can visit year-round as wet season won’t start in the same time in different places.

We do recommend you to bring your own gears if you already own it. If not it’s not a big deal, you can rent the full set onboard, some of our partners provide rental equipment for free, maximum you can expect another 60$ per day.
As a reminder, every scuba diver should be equipped with: Wetsuite/BCD/Regulator set/Fins/Weight system/Dive computer/SMB/Torchlight/Compass.
Nitrox tanks are available on most of the boats, please refer to the boat description.
