A place full of history in scenic mountains
This traditional village is located in the Barat district, in East Nusa Tenggara Province on Flores Island. Inhabited by approximately only 1,200 people, this village is surrounded by scenic mountains and lush forest rich in vegetation. Situated at around 1,100 meters above sea level, it is one of the highest villages in Indonesia.
According to oral tradition the village was settled 18 generations ago. An elder from the community had a vision, then he led his tribe into Flores’ highlands where they settled under the protection of a friendly spirit. Local residents are defending their tradition and culture from generation to generation.
