    Big & tiny species

This dive site shows that you won’t only find big marine life in Raja Ampat, as you will encounter that in sloping wall many critters have found a shelter, most of them with bright tones as well, such as ghost pipefish, pygmy seahorses, many different kinds of nudibranchs, shrimps and flatworms. Underwater macro photographers will come back to the surface with a big smile on their faces.

This undercut karst limestone island rises from the sea and beneath the surface lies a submerged ridge. There is also a coral trout cleaning station and in the distance, napoleon wrasse and some mobula rays cruising by. All these varieties of colors and life forms will surely captivate you during your dive.

    Dive plan

Starting the dive on the protected end of the island and depending on which way the current is running, you will either begin with a relaxed search for some of the exciting flatworms and other of the many critters, or you will take a mild drift towards the end of the ridges. The north side of the ridge, decorated with large sea fans and soft corals, slopes down to beyond 30 meters, however the ridge gets deeper as you continue towards the west. Changing direction to go back to the island and with a slight assent to 18 meters the real action starts. Strong currents sweep over the top of the ridge, so better use a reef hook and sit back in the current, while enjoying the show around. Large schools of fish thrive in this current, where you will often see massive congregations of brightly colored yellow Banded Sweetlips. Mantas also frequent the area when the current is running. If you love high currents underwater, dramatic landscapes above water, colorful marine life and plenty of fishes, then you will love this site.

Definitely a must-dive in Raja Ampat

Kaleidescope is a dive site where most want to return to after sun down, as night dives are also nothing short of stunning.

The south of Raja Ampat might not be the easiest to get to, but the diving here is absolutely worthwhile. The Misool area, with all the breathtaking dive sites, including Kaleidescope, can be especially surprising. Marine life ranges from kaleidoscopic nudibranchs and pygmy seahorses to oceanic manta rays, pelagic species, and rare dugongs, and the best thing, all is possible during a single dive trip. In addition to this, the region is quite isolated, therefore you will likely have the most impressive sites all to yourself. Plenty of action, glowing corals, eye-catching fish, pleasant water temperatures, all is waiting for you.
