Paddling in Komodo

Stand-Up Paddle is very popular in Komodo

Paddling in Komodo
  • You should definitely give it a go!

Another way to discover the beauty of Komodo National Park is with a paddle board, also known as SUP (Stand-Up Paddle boarding). Many of the islands within and just outside the park are uninhabited islands, and they are either difficult to access or inaccessible to large boats, however most of them are only accessible by unmotorised vessels such as sea kayaks and SUP's.

Although Komodo is highly recognized by divers from all over the world, it has yet to be discovered by the standup paddle boarding community.

    Hidden coves, rivers and bays

For paddle boarders, the appeal of Komodo can be found among the many hidden coves, meandering rivers and inlets that remain largely lacking of human presence. This activity is for explorers, adventure and nature lovers and for people who like to discover protected areas. You will enjoy the pristine waters, while paddling around some islands of the park. A very important matter about paddle boarding and kayaking as well, is that with the quiet approach, you won’t be disturbing the local wildlife which will leave you plenty of time to appreciate the authentic, tranquil and superb scenery with its natural wonders.

You will be able to paddle above abundant and magnificent coral reefs, with some of the greatest fish, reaching areas less visited, local villages and uninhabited islands. The sea is crystal clear, and the sea life is supremely exotic.  There are the two dozen islands that are part of this exceptional park, located between Flores and Sumbawa.

Looking for similar or alternatives activities?

There are some fusions available as well, like SUP YOGA, one of today’s most trendy yoga forms.

You will also be able to do some other activities, like snorkeling or scuba diving (if certified,) on the most stunning reefs, encountering manta rays, turtles and many other fish, kayaking, enjoy swimming, exploring the islands by foot to visit small villages while talking to the locals, meeting the mythical Komodo dragons in their natural habitat, the largest lizard on the planet, bird-watching, taking photos, or just relax lying in a hammock or in one of the many pristine beaches.

Paddle boarding is doable all year round, with the best time of year being between April and December, when it’s not too hot and there’s very little chance of rain.
