    Dive plan & Topography

This beautiful submerged pinnacle starts at just 6 meters from the surface and resembles an underwater plateau mountain, progressively stepping down. The first sight you will get, jumping from the dive boat, is an impressive hard coral garden on the shallowest flat top of the ridge. Diving deeper, where the current picks up a little, your first encounters will be with schools of barracuda, fusiliers, and surgeonfish playing in the current, and in shallower places, the stars are large groups of jacks and trevally hunting for their preys while large napoleon wrasse swoop in for scraps. On the west side of the pinnacle lies a long peninsula that is covered in sea fans and soft corals, where you will often see white tip and grey reef sharks cruising in the upwelling from the deeper waters.

Magic Mountain also features at least two manta ray cleaning stations, frequented visited by both, the giant Oceanic (birostris) as well as the smaller reef manta, (alfredi). Manta rays come here to be cleaned of parasites by wrasse and other hungry reef fish. One of these stations is at the end of the peninsula, and you can also find another one in shallower waters, providing an incredible safety stop for lucky divers.

Other oceanic species and vibrant Flora

In addition to the mantas, some other incredible marine life in this site include large school of yellow snapper, batfish, large grouper, turtles, ocean triggerfish, clouds of anthias, the occasional wobbegong shark, Raja Ampat walking sharks, friendly hump head wrasse, and whatever else might swim by. You will never know for sure what you will encounter, which is a great characteristic of the site, since two dives at Magic Mountain are never the same.

Magic Mountain features vibrant soft corals, and great sea fans, surrounded by a cloud of small colorful reef fishes feeding from the current passing up and over the ridge. Going down to 25 meters along the ridge edge, you will find wonderful macro critters clinging to the ridge walls, such as pygmy seahorses, nudibranch and colorful shrimps of various shapes.

    Green Turtle in the Blue

    Recommended for experienced divers

Since the site is completely exposed to strong oceanic currents, you can expect to see large schools of pelagic in the blue. For the same reason, Magic Mountain is a better fit for advanced divers, who may sometimes need to use a reef hook, in order to better enjoy this pelagic action. Despite having a depth of more than 30 meters, the site is better around 25 meters.

You can dive at Magic Mountain all year round. Diving in this area of Raja Ampat is a luxury many will die for.  If you are looking for an action packed dive site, with great chances of seeing majestic Mantas, with the perfect combination of the small guys and big guys, then Magic Mountain is the dive site for you.
